Sarko wins the election

Sarkozy wins in France and vows to break with the past.

"Mr. Sarkozy has pledged to remake France by, among other things, slashing unemployment, cutting taxes, keeping trains running during strikes, making people work harder and longer, shrinking the government bureaucracy, reforming pension rules and making it easier to create new businesses."

Everybody's talking about...

...Facebook. It's all the rage here in Norway. I just joined a few days ago. Currently I have 4 friends including my brother. I haven't had much time to mess around with it, but it looks good. A lot better than Orkut.

"Beer was always big, and may even be healthy. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Holland writes, “claims that a moderate beer drinker — whatever that means — swallows 11 percent of his dietary protein needs, 12 percent of the carbohydrates, 9 percent of essential phosphorus, 7 percent of his riboflavin, and 5 percent of niacin. Should he go on to immoderate beer drinking, he becomes a walking vitamin pill.”

John Lewis spoke at George Mason University on the 24th of April. The Leacture was recorded and has been made available by The Objective Standard on their events page.

The lecture is based on his article "No Substitute for Victory" The Defeat of Islamic Totalitarianism which can be read in its entirety on The Objective Standard website.

John Lewis faces a hostile and disruptive audience, but fends them off like a true intellectual warrior with no real help from the moderator.

Objectivist Blogger's Mailinglist

Diana Hsieh has started a mailinglist for objectivist bloggers.

Purpose:

"The list has no grand purpose: its only goal is to facilitate communication between Objectivist bloggers on issues like upcoming events, posts of interests, best blogging practices, and the like."

Who can join?

"To join the list, you must be a semi-active blogger -- or intend to become one shortly. You must also be an Objectivist, meaning that you agree with and live by the principles of Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism.

As far as I'm concerned, that doesn't require that you endorse or support the Ayn Rand Institute, nor that you agree with any particular Objectivist intellectual in ongoing debates. However, it does require that you refrain from supporting, endorsing, or associating with those who actively distort Ayn Rand's life and ideas, most notably David Kelley, Chris Sciabarra, and Barbara and Nathaniel Branden. Also, if you've treated Leonard Peikoff or other worthy Objectivist intellectuals with contempt in the recent debates about the election, please don't subscribe."

I'm not quite sure if I qualify as "semi-active", this site is at times quite dead, but I do intend to update this site more frequently than I have in the past.
