Der Spiegel Online covers one of the most bizarre conspiracy theories ever concocted. The theory was launched by the vice-president of the German bundestag, Antje Wollmer, and goes as follows:
The US government set the Catholic paedophilia scandal in motion because it wanted to weaken an already frail pope.
Now why would the US government, which to a large extent is characterised by its staunch religious views, want to harm the Pope?
